Donald F. "Don" Hassenplug

Donald F. “Don” Hassenplug, 69, of Lewisburg, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born May 30, 1948 in Lewisburg, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Carlson) Hassenplug. On March 31, 1973, he married the former Sue Ellen Sanders, who survives. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage.

Don was a 1967 graduate of Lewisburg High School.  He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He would go on to earn the National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Bronze Service Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Don worked on the wet line at the former International Paper Co., Lewisburg for over 30 years. He later retired from the Union County Courthouse.

He was a member of the Revival Tabernacle, Watsontown.

Don was an avid sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburg Pirates, Cleveland Cavilers and Penn State football. 
He loved the Three Stooges.  Don enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Donald Jr. and Shawn Hassenplug, both of Lewisburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David Scott and Vickie Hassenplug, of Lewisburg and Gary and Patricia Hassenplug, of Watsontown; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Jim Smith, of Selinsgrove; one sister-in-law, Gretchen Bowersox and her husband, Lynn, of Beaver Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cronrath¬-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg, where a Memorial Service will be held at 7 with his minister, Pastor James R. Bond, officiating assisted by Pastor Janine O’Connell.
