Dorothy Ellen Noyce

Dorothy (Dotey) Ellen Caldwell Noyce, 92, of 130 Magnolia Drive, Lewisburg, died August 10, 2017 at her home.

She was born July 4, 1925 to Fred and Mary (King) Caldwell, in New Castle, Indiana, where she was raised. She met Gaylord Brewster Noyce at Miami University of Ohio. They married on June 4, 1949 in Istanbul, Turkey, where they taught and worked following WWII. They celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his death on August 10, 2009.

Dotey lived a life of gratitude and service. Her career was in the Hamden, Connecticut, public schools as an elementary school psychologist. She loved people of all walks and flavors, delighting in recounting tales of everyday triumphs and foibles. Her gentle humor endeared her to many. She provided the bedrock for Gaylord's ministry (United Church of Christ), teaching (Yale Divinity School), and activism in civil rights in Raleigh, North Carolina and New Haven, Connecticut. Dotey freely expressed her love of the world's cultural and religious diversity. She was devoted to, and beloved, by her family.

Dotey is survived by children Betsy (Jeff Scheckter) Noyce of Lewisburg; Karen (Arthur Norton) Noyce, and Tim Noyce, all of Minnesota; brother Charles (Connielou) Caldwell of California; five grandchildren, Sarah, Abbey and Rachel Scheckter, Lee Norton, and Emily Norton-Finken; and four great-grandchildren, Caroline Scheckter, Eleanor and Clara Soliah, and Jasmine Finken.

A memorial service at Riverwoods will be held at later date.

We, the family, cannot express the depth of our gratitude for the extraordinary loving care our Mom received from all of the staff at Riverview Manor during her months there. You are in our hearts forever. We are deeply indebted to the nurses, aides, and volunteers from Evangelical Hospice whose only concern was Mom's comfort and quality of life in her final weeks. Our thanks go to all the Riverwoods community and the Bucknell Institute for Lifelong Learning for the friendship and enrichment they brought to Mom's last 6 years of life.
