Hazel M. Anderson

Hazel M. Anderson, 83, of Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

She was born February 23, 1934 in Winfield, a daughter of the late Ernest H. and H. Mae (Gill) Shaffer.  On September 1, 1956, she married Ray J. Anderson, Jr. and they celebrated 33 years of marriage before his death on January 17, 1990.

Hazel was a 1952 graduate of Lewisburg High School.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Winfield, where she was part of the candy makers committee. Hazel was also a member of the Lewisburg chapter #394 Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Union Twp. Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.

Hazel enjoyed bowling and loved traveling to all of the Penn State football games.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve Anderson, of Winfield, Kevin and Carrie Anderson, of Watsontown and David and Kelly Anderson, of Winfield; one brother, Carl Shaffer, of Milton; one sister, Jane Courter, of Lewisburg and two grandchildren, Tobias Ray Anderson and Kristy Lin Anderson Kline and her husband, Justin E. Kline.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son in infancy, Bradley Anderson and three brothers, Max Gill and Richard and Bud Shaffer.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 with Rev. Marian K. Anderson, chaplain of Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, officiating.

Burial will follow in Winfield Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Hazel’s name be made to either the Union Twp. Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 27, Winfield, PA 17889 or the Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 159 Winfield, PA 17889.
