Marion D. Danowsky

Marion D. Danowsky, 104, of Lewisburg, passed away Saturday July 8, 2017 at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.

She was born January 2, 1913 in Tomhicken, a daughter of the late Amandas and Cora (Peffer) DeFrain.  On May 2, 1936, she married Harold M. Danowsky. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before his death on January 29, 2002.

Marion was a 1931 graduate of West Hazelton High School. She was a 1933 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teacher’s College. She began her 29-year teaching career at Sugarloaf Valley Elementary School. After a five year hiatus, in which she stayed home to care for her children and help run the family farm, she returned to teaching; first at Straw Bridge School near Dock View Dairy in Lewisburg, then Mazeppa Elementary School, Buffalo Crossroads and Kelly Elementary, from where she retired in 1972.  

Marion was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, the Rev. Alice Pawling, of Laurelton and Helen and Robert Stump, of Lewisburg; three grandchildren, Greg Stump, of Utah, Adam Pawling, of Minnesota and Sarah Phillips, of New Jersey; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Paul DeFrain; three sisters, Meta and Fern DeFrain and Nida Croman; son-in-law, John Pawling; and a son in infancy.

Friends will be received from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John E. Lee, retired United Methodist Minister, officiating.

Burial will follow in Church Hill Cemetery (Twin Churches).

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, in care of Jeff Hauck, 138 3rd St. New Columbia, PA 17856.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Elmcroft and Riverwoods for all their wonderful care.
