Alta Mae Whitmoyer, 86, of Elm St. Watsontown, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital, Danville.
She was born on May 19, 1931 in Watsontown, a daughter to the late Henry C. and Bessie B. (Trutt) Aunkst. On October 6, 1962, she married Thomas A. Whitmoyer who preceded her in death on November 4, 1984.
Alta Mae was a 1949 graduate of Watsontown high school. She was pinned as a RN and received her Florence Nightingale lantern from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing, Elmira, NY. Alta Mae later retired after 30 years of nursing at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Following retirement, she continued her passion for nursing as a substitute school nurse.
She was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Watsontown, and the West Branch Chorale.
Alta Mae enjoyed spending time at the senior center, playing the piano, bowling and art.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynnette Whitmoyer Clements and her husband, Charles; four siblings, Barbara A. Burley, Jack E. Aunkst and his wife, Patsy, Pauline D. Turner and H. Betsy Nichols and her husband, Marvin; niece, Sandy Foresman and her husband, Larry; numerous other nieces and nephews including great and great-great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by seven siblings, Eva Havens, Mary Ellen Aunkst, David Aunkst, Joseph Aunkst, William Aunkst, Carolyn Griffis, and Joan Aunkst.
Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 602 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with her minister, the Rev. Donald Snyder, officiating.
Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.
The family is being assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St. Watsontown.
