October 20, 1957 ~ April 28, 2017 (age 59) 59 Years Old

Dr. Jonathan L. Grindlinger, 59, of Lewisburg, passed away suddenly Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home.

He was born October 20, 1957 in Hanover, a son of the late Shirley Koitz-Rich, and Bernard Grindlinger, of Tucson, AZ. On September 3, 2000 he married the former Randy J. Maslow, who survives. Together they celebrated 16 years of marriage.

Jonathan was a 1976 graduate of Southwest High School, Hanover, where he was a champion swimmer and was the first captain of the swim team. He was a 1980 graduate of Penn State University and a 1984 graduate of Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia. Jonathan did his internship and residency with Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia. He previously worked at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, Sharon Regional Hospital, Sharon and Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Most recently he operated a private practice in Lewisburg, where he specialized in psychiatry and therapy. He was devoted wholeheartedly to his patients and the medicine in which he practiced. Jonathan was also the Co-President and board member of Silvan S. Tompkins Institute, where he adamantly promoted affect theory.

He was a member of Congregation Beth-El, Sunbury, where his children celebrated their b’nai mitzvoth.

Music was a monumental part of his life, having started in garage bands and ultimately playing lead guitar with the band, The Band from Glad, from college throughout medical school. Jonathan relished playing guitar, all great contemporary music and also enjoyed composing music.

Constantly discovering, he was an avid reader, who owed and read volumes of sci-fi books. Jonathan loved learning the in’s and out’s of electronics and he loved movies, especially ones with fast action. He was known to be innovative and could fix anything the best he could. Jonathan was also fond of cooking.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father are a son and his fiancé, Robert S. Grindlinger and Alexis Hockey, of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Fallon Grindlinger, of Long Island, NY; their mother, Diane Klein, of Philadelphia; a brother, Ethan Grindlinger, of Philadelphia; and a sister, Helen Levine, of Philadelphia.
