Geraldine E. Schlegel

Geraldine E. Schlegel, 97, formerly of Lewisburg, died Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Milton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 24, 1921 in Union County, a daughter of the late Arthur A. and Anna M. (Aikey) Swanger. On December 24, 1945 she married Clarence Schelgel and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death November 23, 1998.

Geraldine was a 1939 graduate of Lewisburg High School. She worked at the former Wagner’s Book Store, Lewisburg, and later retired as a sales associate at the former J.C. Penny’s in the Susquehanna Valley Mall.

Geraldine was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Urban, where she was very active in her earlier years, including a member of church council.

She was most proud of her family and loved spending much of her time with them.  Geraldine also enjoyed embroidering and cross stitching.

Surviving are one sister-in-law, Beatrice Swanger, of Lewisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Harold Swanger.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1473 Urban Road, Herndon, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Church cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Geraldine’s name be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1473 Urban Rd., Herndon, PA 17830.
