Henry Osborn Obituary

Henry H. Osborn passed away peacefully Thursday, June 7 at home in Lewisburg at age 91.

He was born on December 3, 1926 to Stanley H. Osborn and Gertrude (Hooper) Osborn, and was raised in West Hartford, Connecticut. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Agnes (Peg), their two sons John and Stephen and 2 grandchildren.

Henry attended Tufts College for a semester before entering the US Army for two years. He spent 1946 in Linz, Austria on occupation duty, whence he learned of the tragedy of the war in Europe. Henry returned to Tufts College and completed his Mechanical Engineering degree in 1950.

He then worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT for two years followed by two years of teaching various mechanical engineering subjects at Bucknell University, Lewisburg. Henry did his graduate work at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, attaining his PhD degree in 1957. He taught at Purdue for several years before taking a position in Research and Development at the Air Preheater Company in Wellsville, New York, where he worked until retirement.

Henry was a member of Rotary International for nearly 30 years, being a Club Secretary and Club President.

Henry was an inveterate student, studying a wide range of subjects all his life. During his retirement years in Lewisburg, he attended at least one course each semester in biology, physics, mathematics, geology, economics or English for as long as his health allowed.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
