Herbert C. Witmer

Herbert C. Witmer, 76, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 24 2018 at his daughter’s home in Lewisburg.

He was born August 22, 1942 in Lancaster, a son of the late Ezra Clair and Helen (Crowl) Witmer.  On September 7, 1963, he married the former Ann Palmer and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage before her death on March 8, 2015.

Herbert was a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School and received his master’s degree from Penn State University. He retired from the Department of Public Welfare, where he was the head of the Social Services Department for the central region of Pennsylvania.

He enjoyed cycling, hiking and traveling with his wife.

An avid sports fan himself, Herbert took great pride in the athleticism of his grandchildren and loved to spend time watching their many sporting activities.

Surviving are one son, Ben Witmer, of Allentown; one daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Jesse Moore, of Lewisburg, one brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Joan Witmer, of Willow Street; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ron Good, of Saint James City, FL; five grandchildren, Lindsay, Eric, Collin, Ella and Jake; and his significant other, Olivia Susskind, of Harrisburg.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his best friend, Ed Carskadon.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
