Josephine V. Mathias

Josephine V. Mathias, 95, of Lewisburg, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

She was born October 1, 1922 in New Bedford, MA, the oldest daughter of Armando Almeida Victoria and Herminia Grace (Laurente) Victoria. On July 16, 1948 she married Earl P. Mathias, who she met while they were working at a factory in Rhode Island during WWII. They were married for 28 years, when he passed away in 1976.

Josephine graduated from Central Falls High School, Rhode Island. She spent most of her life raising and caring for her family. She was a big baseball fan and loved her Boston Red Sox. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lewisburg. She spent several years working with Dr. Clyde Jacobs of Sunbury and volunteering at the gift shop at Evangelical Hospital. She was a member of The Lewisburg Garden Club where she served as one of their presidents.

Surviving are four sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg H and Deborah Mathias, Cliff S. and Lyn Mathias and Steve R. Mathias, all of Lewisburg and Mark P. Mathias, of Maryland; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay M. and John Rupert, of Shippenville; two sisters, Carmen Deans, of Massachusetts and Betty Feder, of Florida; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Jeff D. Mathias, her brother, Armand Victoria, and one sister, Thelma Victoria.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
