Meda Moyer Obituary

Meda Lorraine Moyer, 92, a longtime resident of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Buffalo Valley Personal Care in Lewisburg. She had been a resident at the assisted living complex since 2016.

She was born on May 19, 1925 on a farm near Turbotville to the late Raymond J. and Anna R. (Menges) Keefer.   On May 13, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Turbotville, she married Robert E. “Bob” Moyer and together they celebrated 37 years of marriage until his passing on April 7, 1989.

Meda was a 1944 graduate of Turbotville High School. Following graduation, she was employed at various businesses, including Waldon Manufacturing and Westinghouse.  In 1953, upon Bob’s return from military service, they moved to Kelly Cross Roads. They resided at this Lewisburg location for many years, where she had a large garden and spent her days canning and freezing the bounty to provide good food for her family. When her children were older, Meda was employed for 20 years in the cafeteria at Kelly Elementary School in Lewisburg.

She was an active and faithful member of United in Christ Lutheran Church (formerly St. John’s Lutheran Church), rural Lewisburg.  She was part of a sewing group at the church who met weekly to create quilts.  Raising Arabian horses, Bob and Meda spent many hours enjoying horseback riding and pleasure-driving carriages and sleighs with good friends.

Meda moved to Yarger Road in Lewisburg in 1998 and was very active in her retirement. She enjoyed exercise and line dancing classes, dining out and bus trips with friends, her flower beds and working part-time at Brookpark Inn in Lewisburg.  Most important to Meda was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Darlene Kiefer and her husband, Russell, of Mifflinburg; two sons, Michael Moyer and his wife, Delle, of Harrisonburg, VA, and Todd Moyer, of Watsontown; Seven grandchildren and their families, Clint Morris and Shane Kiefer, both of Lewisburg, Michael Moyer, of Wyndmoor, Jaime Searfoss, of Fort Washington, Robert Moyer, of Danville, and Christopher and Brett Moyer, both of Jersey City, NJ; seven great-grandsons; one brother, Clair Keefer, of South Williamsport; and one sister-in-law, Pearl Keefer, of Watsontown.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Irvin, Sydney, Harold and Glenn Keefer; two special cousins, Miriam and Lera Lerch; and the loss of a sister, Ceal and a brother, Kenneth, both in childhood.

Family and friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Rd., rural Lewisburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. with her minister, the Rev. Justin G. Lingenfelter, officiating.

Burial will follow in White Deer Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Buffalo Valley Personal Care for their loving care and Evangelical Hospice for their excellent skills in her final weeks of life.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837, Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, 189 E.
