Renee Soges Obituary
Our beloved mother, Renee Jeanne (Capon) Soges, returned to “la source” October 12th, 2018.
She will be missed by her husband of nearly 70 years, Francis Charles Soges, her sister (Lucienne Capon), her children (Celine Soges, Dr. Laurence Soges, Francoise Bettner), and their spouses (Donna Soges, Mark Bettner), five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
She was born March 16th 1925 in Virton, Belgium.
Her journey from a small Belgian town to Lewisburg, PA, was not straightforward, nor predictable. She lost her mother at an early age. Then there was WW2, which ravaged the youth of her generation.
She took a chance and married a Hungarian refugee, which proved to be the love of her life. Together, they ventured to live in Africa, and had 3 children.
When given permission to immigrate, they said goodbye to their European families, and came to New York on the USS United States, via Ellis Island in 1960.
“Mami” has always been an avid lover of nature, both flora and fauna. She belonged to the Lewisburg garden club, as well as other conservation organizations.
Even at the end, she could be seen pushing a wheelbarrow, planting and mulching, with her oxygen by her side.
