Roy L. "Pop" Rathmell

Roy L. “Pop” Rathmell, 82, of New Berlin, passed away at Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville

He was born April 18, 1936 in Watsontown, a son of the late Harold L. and Ruth M. (Mauser) Rathmell.  On July 21, 1956, he married the former Martha Bowersox and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Pop was a 1954 graduate of Watsontown High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps reserves. Pop retired from the former North Star Steel company, Milton.

He was a charter member and elder of the Hillside Bible Church, Mifflinburg.

Pop enjoyed gardening, carpentry and woodworking. He was considered a jack of all trades by his family and friends. In his spare time, Pop also loved cutting firewood.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his three children, Carole Brosious and her husband, Bob, Jeff Rathmell and his wife, Cindy, and Kevin Rathmell and his wife Melodie; one brother, Dale Rathmell and his wife, Deidre; two sisters, R. Marie Bomboy and Doris Bomboy and her husband, Fred; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, H. Lamar and Lee Rathmell and one granddaughter, Bethany Rathmell.

Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Hillside Bible Church, 1650 Centennial Rd, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with his son, the Rev. Kevin Rathmell, officiating, assisted by Pastor Matthew Abberger

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in McEwensville Cemetery.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
