Albert Edward Cox, Jr., 82, of Lewisburg, passed away December 9, 2023, after a brief illness.
A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and a graduate of Florida State University, he served at eight duty stations within the Federal Prison System and in a variety of institutional and administrative management positions. After retiring from the federal system in 1992, he assisted in the development of Firetree, Ltd. in Williamsport. Ed functioned as Chief Executive Officer for a number of years before changing to consultant status. He served on the Board of Directors of New Foundations, Philadelphia, and as Vice President of Gensis House.
Ed was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lewisburg and sang in the Parish and Men’s choir, occasionally singing solos. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Prison Warden’s Association for 34 years. Ed also served on Lewisburg Council for eight years and as a commissioner on the Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department.
Ed is survived by his wife, Susan Storer Cox and granddaughter Lindsey Cox; son, Todd Cox and daughter, Tammy Cox Munro (John), all of Sunbury; a sister, Sue Baughman (George), of Athens, Georgia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both parents and his first wife, Karen Hassenplug Cox.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. 3rd Street, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in Mazeppa Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
