Jane Amacher Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Amacher, 77, of Lewisburg, died on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at her home.

Jane was born April 30, 1943 in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Frederick R. and Hilda E. (Brown) Tomlinson. On September 30, 1961 she married Dr. A. Loren Amacher, who preceded her in death on November 21, 2017. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage.

More than anything in life, Jane loved building community and bringing people together.  She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends, whether it was a simple lunch with a friend, organizing a family reunion, or volunteering for the community center. She opened her doors when students or their families needed a place to stay, or to group gatherings, such as hosting the Bison Basketball team for Thanksgiving dinner: Everyone was welcome in her home. She dedicated her life to being a accepting, compassionate, empathetic, and supportive role model. She was always quick with a smile and free with her laughter.

Jane was a strong supporter, advocate, and Director of the Donald Heiter Community Center, and she was committed to the Center’s success through campaigns, such as the Chocolate Festival. She (and Loren) enjoyed participating in the Bucknell community and was a supporter of the Weis Center. Jane was passionate about her garden and spent many hours cultivating and nurturing her plants. She loved her Rhododendrons. She was also an accomplished amateur chef who would not shy away from any meal.

Most of all, Jane was the most loving mother, sister, wife, nana, aunt, cousin, and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed. There is no one in this world who can fill her place. She was exceptional.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jon Amacher, of Mill Bay, British Columbia and Marc and Tracy Amacher, of Victoria, British Columbia, and two grandsons, Liam and Riley Amacher. She was the beloved sister of Mary Tomlinson (Maurice Pierre) and David Tomlinson (Cora McNamara) and aunt to Sara and Andrew, and Stacy and Bonnie.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one son, Scott Amacher (September 24, 1982).

The Amacher and Tomlinson families would like to express their gratitude to the amazing team of friends and care workers who allowed Jane to remain in her home and live the remainder of her life with dignity. You provided her love, comfort, and companionship through a very difficult time. Thank you.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
