Mary Anna Whalen

Mary Anna Whalen, 96, of Muncy, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville.

Born April 2, 1923 in Muncy, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Shingle) Hill. On June 27, 1940 she married her high school sweetheart, Jack L. Whalen. Together they celebrated 75 years of marriage until his death Jan. 22, 2016. 

Mary Anna attended Muncy High School with the class of 1941. She graduated from the former Miss Susie L. Wheaton School of Business, Williamsport. Mary Anna worked many years as a bookkeeper and secretary at the former Frey’s Hardware, Muncy. After Jack’s  retirement in 1978, Mary Anna and Jack became full time antique dealers. They loved traveling to antique shows throughout Pennsylvania and Mary Anna enjoyed sharing her extensive knowledge of the antiques. After a lifetime of collecting antiques, Mary Anna and Jack finally retired in 2013.

Mary Anna was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Pennsdale. She was an active member of the Muncy Historical Society and the Muncy Flowers Club.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Dale Anderson, of Muncy; three granddaughters, Lucy McHugh and her husband, Dan, Melissa Hampton and Beth Donovan and her husband, David; and four great-grandchildren, Emma McHugh, Malaena and Mallory Hampton and Liam Donovan.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 21st,  at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m., with her pastor, the Rev. Kevin St. Martin, officiating.

Burial will be held privately in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 658 Village Rd., Pennsdale, PA 17756.
