I'm so sorry to hear EJ's passing. He was a fantastic teacher who loved both the subject matter he taught as well as helping students learn. I will always remember him as one of the finest professors I had while at Bucknell.

Dear Mary and the extended Mastascusa family,
William, Jeannette and Diana send greetings to you all at a difficult time. As members of the Bucknell and Union County communities, we note that Ed touched many lives here—both of young people being readied for life's journey as well as colleagues: contemporaries as well as older friends in humor and deeds like Rosemary and Charley Walker. Ed made a difference for those who were fortunate to know and work with him. May they continue to act with his example and standards as a their compass.

I was shocked to hear about Dr. Mastascusa's passing. My thoughts and prayers go to the entire Mastascusa family. Dr. Mastascusa will always be one of my favorite professors (and teachers) of all time. He had a very engaging presence in the classroom, and I truly enjoyed taking his classes and solving problems with Asuc Satsam. Having spent 4 years with Ed as a classmate, friend, and neighbor (in Swartz Hall) and having personally met both Mary and Noreen in my time at Bucknell (and at class reunions), I know how wonderful the Mastascusa family must be. Although I am deeply saddened, I can also say that I am right now enjoying (and will continue to enjoy) many fond memories. Thank you for those memories, and God bless you all.

To Mary & The Family:

I was truly sad to head about my dear friend Ed Mastascusa's passing. I truly thought the world of Ed and I will continue to embrace many of the things that I learned from him. For those who never knew him, I would gladly volunteer that he was truly one of the warmest and most genuine souls that I have ever encountered. God bless Ed Mastascusa and may he enjoy everlasting joy in the presence of our father.

My late husband, Warren Baas, was an Electrical Engineering student at Bucknell 1969-1973. Warren was excited and delighted to work with him again in 1977-8 on his Master's project. He often spoke about 'E.J.' with admiration and respect. My deepest sympathies to you on your loss. Blessings. Kathy Baas

Mary,
I worked at Bucknell only for a year in a visiting position. You helped my wife and me find a house to rent, and Ed was a good mentor to me as I learned how to teach. To this day, I still use his clearly-written tutorials that are online; I will refer to them this summer. You and Ed helped us to feel welcome in Lewisburg; thank you! I have thought of Ed often as I used his electrical engineering materials, and remember him as a great man.
Peace,
David Kraemer

Dear Mary,
When we arrived in Lewisburg in 1987, you and Ed graciously welcomed us and made us feel at home. He was a skilled and brilliant teacher and as new faculty and staff members, Ed's encouragement always made us feel more confident about our work.
With much gratitude,
Nancy and Gary

Mary, I just heard about Ed. I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Ed for 13 years in the Electrical Engineering Department. He enjoyed talking about Pittsburgh since I was also from that area. He always had a joke or a song & was a great caring boss. He loved teaching the students who referred to him as EJ. I have many fond memories of my time working at Bucknell.
My heart & thoughts go out to you & your family.

Hearing of Dr. M's passing brought back wonderful memories. Lab experiments featuring characters like Asucsatsam and RC Reclaw. I remember being a student and reading early drafts of his control systems book. I still keep thinking about poles and zeros and the left half plane. I remember being a victim of a flying eraser as he objected to my 'very thoughtful' contribution in class.

But mostly I remember a man who encouraged me. I miss the congeniality of those times and the wisdom of a man who knew just the right mix of humor, excellence, discipline, and encouragement.

Dear Mastascusa Family - I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Ed was one of my favorite people at Bucknell. He would always be with Bill (Snyder). They were a pair! They would come to the Bookstore when I worked there, and we would talk, laugh, and just have fun. He always brightened my day. When I moved to a different office, I didn't see him quite as often, but I would think of him, knowing that he was one of a kind. A good kind. Now a days, people aren't made out of the same mold as Ed was. I hope he left with many people, the impression he left with me. From a fellow Italian, he will be missed. My deepest sympathy - Antoinette
