Nancy and Family
We are so sorry to learn of Peter's passing earlier this month. We remember fondly his Christmas Party scavenger hunts and trying to find the elusive pin in the edge of a picture frame. Peter set a standard in all he did and he was passionate about his many clients.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Last fall I took Professor Macky's Legal Environment class. Although it was at 8 am, his class was always interesting and he shared a genuine concern about his students inside and outside the classroom. He was especially good at relating the content of the course to our everyday lives, and I was looking forward to taking another course with him next year. Professor Macky will be greatly missed at Susquehanna.

I met Pete several years ago through the Merrill Linn Conservancy. He helped me lead the bicycle ride we do every year as part of our Caring for Communities program. Since then, I would run into him occasionally while working out at the Bucknell KLARC facility. I always enjoyed chatting with him because he went out his way to be friendly to me, and he enjoyed telling me about his family. My condolences to them.

Greatest sympathy for your family at the time of this loss. I first met Pete when I was a young employee at Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition more than 30 years ago and continued to work with him from time to time when I moved to Bucknell University. I was always impressed with his optimistic outlook, despite the difficult cases he was involved in. I also admired his commitment to protecting the rights of poor families and individuals who had so few resources. He was a real champion for so many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Pete -- he was a colleague, friend, fellow punster, fellow Rehoboth Beach lover.... he was so much the best of everything. Pete and I came to Legal Services at about the same time in the mid 1970s and forged a wonderful connection despite working in separate offices across the State. It was a privilege and a pleasure to work with him for about 40 wonderful years, working on cases, writing manuals, meeting at conferences, e-mailing back and forth-- often with puns, jokes -- sometimes even in French! He was so bright, so willing to share his experience and knowledge, so good humored, and so deeply committed to serving the less fortunate. His quality of work in serving them and how he helped shape the law to their benefit will be a major part of his legacy. We kept up our connection even after I retired and we were in fact still exchanging jokes and puns a few weeks ago right up to the Iceland trip in August. I have not yet come to grips with his passing. But I do know this world was a better place for his having lived and will be diminished by his death. My husband joins me in sending our deepest sympathies to the family. Lea Judson

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of my good neighbor. Living next door to the Macky's since 1995 enabled me to see what a fine father he was to his children and good husband to Nancy. Our neighborhood will certainly miss him.

I'm so sorry to hear about your family's loss. Pete was always so friendly and asked about my family. He would proudly talk about Allen and Annie. Keeping the three of you in my thoughts and prayers.

I was lucky enough to have Professor Pete Macky for my Legal Environment class at Susquehanna University a year ago. His sense of humor, genuine want and enthusiasm to connect with students and be a resource for them through life, as well as his passion for law and his family absolutely lit up the classroom in every 8am lecture. Professor Macky's dedication to students was incredible. During that same semester of Legal Environment, I was struggling, but Professor Macky never gave up on me. He went out of his way to give additional help and encouragement to me and others outside of our lectures. He even contacted me after the end of the class to tell me how proud he was of me for finishing out the semester strong. Whenever Professor Macky would see me on campus after that class, we would happily catch up about each other's lives and there was never a shortage of laughter nor a dull moment in our conversations. My heart and prayers go out to his family - Professor Macky has touched so many lives and he will absolutely be missed.

I had Peter Macky for Legal Environment this semester at Susquehanna University. He never had a frown on his face for the 3 weeks that he taught us. Macky was lively, energetic and enthusiastic about law and enlightening others in my class about the world of legal services. He will be missed, and I wish I could have known him better.
But he shall always be remembered for his legal work for over 4 decades, for always being there for students and family and for reuniting my interest in law.

I was stunned by news of Pete's sudden passing. When I first arrived at Bucknell in 1967, Pete was among my first students and advisees—and one of my all-time favorites. I appreciated his dedication to providing free legal services to those in need for all these years. I've enjoyed running into him around town from time to time. My condolences to Nancy and the rest of the family.

I was so stunned and saddened to hear of Pete's loss. I regularly played Trivia alongside him and the rest of our team on Thursday nights and the Towne Tavern. Pete was always so genuine and respectful and indulged me when I'd show off pictures of my niece. His love and pride for his family and kids was also obvious. He always talked about their accomplishments and achievements. I'll miss him a lot. He was truly an admirable man in a world where those are harder to find.

I had the pleasure of working with Pete at Susquehanna University for about 4 years. He was energetic, enthusiastic, and easy going. He was a supporter of the Susquehanna Valley and even wrote a small article on things everyone should do at least once while they were here and submitted the SU newspaper. He created a list of "Mackyisms" that he would have me send to his seniors at the end of the semester, I personally enjoyed the "Mackyisms" so much they had a spot posted on my office wall for quite some time. He would stop by and talk about trips that he and his wife and children went on, there was never an awkward silence with him and you always enjoyed your conversations with Pete. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and children. He will be greatly missed.
