Kathryn Weller

Mrs. Kathryn Weller, 94, of 15 Ridgecrest Circle, Lewisburg, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017.

Katie was born on March 8, 1922 in Bloomsburg, the daughter of the late William Edward Deiterick and Martha (Yost) Deiterick.

She graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1940 and attended Bloomsburg University.  She then worked for the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in Washington D.C.

She married Ned E. Weller on Thanksgiving Day in 1942.  They were married for over 71 years and raised five children.  Katie was employed by Cherokee Ordinance Plant in Riverside, Pa. during World War ll.  Later, she was a library assistant at Bertram Library, Bucknell University, and retired after sixteen years with Pattee Library, Penn State University.

Following retirement, she was employed by Sunflower Child Care Center, Bucknell University.  She earned a degree in Early Childhood Development when she was over 70 years of age.  She was an early childhood teacher from 1988 – 1997.

As the wife of a Methodist minister, she was active in the Sunday Schools, choirs, and women’s work, serving offices at district and conference levels in the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. 

She traveled extensively with her husband and enthusiastically collected antiques and dolls.  She served on the Resident’s Council at Riverwoods and was on the welcoming committee for new residents. 

Katie is survived by two sons, William and Barbra Pardoe, of Baltimore and Phillip N. Weller, of Valencia, Ca.; two daughters, Mary E. Weller, of Sebastian, Fl. and Suzanne and William Stackhouse, of New Berlin; a sister, Mary Jane Erdman, of Danville; a sister-in-law, Ruth G. Weller, of Boca Raton, Fl.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; four nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, The Rev. Ned E. Weller; two brothers, Jack and Robert Deiterick; and a son, Hugh James Weller.

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Marlow Hall, Riverwoods Senior Living Community, 3201 River Rd., Lewisburg, where a celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m.  with Pastor Peter Geschwindner, chaplain at RiverWoods, officiating, and the Rev. Mark Reisinger, pastor of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, assisting.

Burial will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg.

The family is being assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
