Lona J. McConnell

Lona J. McConnell, 84, of 1167 E. Penn St., Muncy, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born February 25, 1932 in Milton, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Mildred Houseknecht. She and her husband, Carl McConnell, were married 29 years before his death July 1, 1993.

Lona was a 1950 graduate of Muncy High School. She worked as a data processor for the former Sprout-Waldron, now Andritz for 40 years.

She was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown where she was a council member, served as the congregation treasurer for many years and helped with the church newsletter. Lona was a member of the choir and the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed  assisting with evangelism events and serving church dinners. Lona was also fond of word search puzzles.

Surviving are several cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lona was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Letteer.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Muncy Cemetery, 204 E. Penn St., Muncy, with her pastor the Rev. Beverly D. Cotner, officiating.

Memorial contributions in Lona’s memory may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 2041 St. Rt. 442, Clarkstown, PA 17756.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
