Robert B. Ranck

Robert B. Ranck, 88, of Lewisburg, died Monday, May 9, 2016 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born February 2, 1928 in New Columbia, a son of the late Voneida and Idella (Adams) Ranck. On August 27, 1952 he married the former Thelma M. Hursh and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before her death on March 14, 2013.

Robert was a 1948 graduate of Milton High School. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War. From 1946 to 1947, Robert served on a patrol craft escort in the South Pacific and from 1950 to 1952 he was stationed at the Naval Station Kodiak, Alaska.

Earlier in life, he worked as a Watsontown postal rural letter carrier, operated his own home improvement business and worked at the former Shippers Car Line, Milton and Avco Lycoming, Williamsport. Robert retired as a purchasing agent from the National Gypsum Corporation, White Deer.

Robert was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, White Deer. He was also a member of Watsontown Lodge #401 F&AM and the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post #182. He volunteered his time at the White Deer Twp. fire company and was a Boy Scout troop leader.

Having a love for the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Robert enjoyed watching NASCAR and Indycar racing.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Richard Chalmers, of Lewisburg; two brothers, Voneida Ranck, of New Columbia and John Ranck, of White Deer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Norman, Jay and Jack Ranck.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery, New Columbia with his pastor Rev. Robert O. Rice, Jr., officiating.
